Personal Data Protection Law

After the Law on Protection of Personal Data No. 6698 was accepted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on March 24, 2016, it was published in the Official Gazette dated April 7, 2016 and numbered 29677.

The Personal Data Protection Authority is a public institution that has a public legal personality and administrative autonomy, and is associated with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey, according to Article 19 of the Law No. 6698.

Duties

To follow the practices and developments in the legislation, to make evaluations and suggestions, to carry out research and examinations or to have them done, in terms of its field of duty.

If necessary, to cooperate with public institutions and organizations, non-governmental organizations, professional organizations or universities in the fields of duty.

To monitor and evaluate international developments regarding personal data, to cooperate with international organizations on matters falling within its scope of duty, to attend meetings.

To present the annual report to the Presidency, the Human Rights Investigation Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the Prime Ministry.

Fulfilling other duties assigned by law.
